West Wicklow fishery Rathcon held it’s 1st qualifier last Sunday November 3rd. This 8.5 acres rainbow trout fishery is fly fishing only and open all year round. Dermot tells us:
A total of 40 fish were landed throughout the 4.5hrs fishing. The 1st hour was unusually quiet but it picked up in the early afternoon. All flies were allowed this year and the snake proved to be pretty effective.
Dave McBride and Freddie Miller both got off to good starts with fish at their first three pegs. Darius Simcus was using a team of bloodworms and was catching up on the early leaders.
Plenty of fish were also lost mostly through using barbless hooks and a couple of decent fish were landed of around 7-8 pounds. The first five qualify for the final in March. Many thanks to Southside Angling for sponsoring a prize. The next heat will be in Jan 2014.
