Derek Gibbons from Cavan Coarse Angling Club reports on the 9th match of their Winter League fished on Peter’s Lake in Monaghan.
The 9th match of the Cavan Coarse Angling Club Winter League was fished on Saturday, 12 January at Peter’s Lake. This venue was chosen as it is not prone to flooding and had been fishing well in the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately the drop in temperatures at the weekend seemed to put the fish off the feed and only smaller fish were caught, mostly roach and some perch with only two small skimmers of 9 or 9 oz recorded. The 10 competing anglers persevered and did their best to put together a decent bag. Lee Jex eventually saw off the competition with a very creditable 3.915kg almost a full kilogramme ahead of the 2nd placed Peader Harten.
