Shay O’Donnell reports on the first event hosted by Navan Coarse Angling Club on the canal at Navan. This event was sponsored by IFI and 17 novice anglers took part, under the expert tuition of Geoff Quinn and Peter Walsh of the Irish Angling Development Alliance.
Day 1 at the Ramparts Navan saw all the junior anglers learn about the various fish species present in the canal and basic coarse angling techniques. The fish manged to remain elusive on the canal on day 1 so for day 2 a change of location to a local commercial fishery was decided upon to give the novices the best opportunity of landing some fish and land fish they did. All of the juniors present each caught 15 to 25 roach, perch, rudd, gudgeon and there were two nice carp landed also. When all was said and done it has to be acknowledged that all who took part in this course learned a lot but most importantly of all – enjoyed themselves. Once again, many thanks to the sponsors and coaches from all at NCAC.
