At Scotch Hall Shopping Centre today, Minister Fergus O’Dowd visited the promotional stand on the second of two information days aimed at promoting Fisheries Awareness Week 2013 in the Drogheda area. During his visit the Minister met with volunteers from local angling clubs, angling sector, staff from Inland Fisheries Ireland and members of the public.
Members of the Drogheda and District Anglers Club: who are celebrating their 75th Anniversary; assisted on the promotional stand for the two information days which took place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th April in Scotch Hall, Shopping Centre, Drogheda. Certified ACI coach Brendan O’Reilly who also runs Newgrange Active Angling also assisted on the stand today Sunday 28th. Members of the public came along to see the fish display tanks on the stand and learn more about how to get involved in angling. Many youngsters again enjoyed the kids area provided and entered a colouring competition which provided them with the opportunity to win a number of prizes. These included rods and reels, a tackle box and a small fishing pole which were sponsored by the Boyne Angling Centre Tackle Dealer in Drogheda and East Coast Angling Tackle Dealer in Navan.
Fishing expert Paul Dennis of the Drogheda and District Anglers Club, Angling Coach Brendan O’Reilly and Josie Mahon and David Byrne from Inland Fisheries Ireland explained all about the comprehensive schedule of events that will be taking place for game, coarse and sea angling during Fisheries Awareness Week.
