‘There’s none so blind as those who will not see’
This certainly isn’t the case with the residents of St Joseph’s residential home for the deaf/blind in Stillorgan Co.Dublin. As you can see from the photos Deirdre and Nigel are pure naturals when it came to fishing. They used all their senses. Instinctively knowing what to do, well done to all who participated at the beautiful Lakes of Rathbeggan. Super work!…
Yvonne Dumpleton reports on the day..
On Monday morning 25th the water was calm in Rathbeggan lakes the sky was clear.
The blind cannot see, the deaf cannot hear, but they can feel . There was much excitement when
Deirdre Lynch a deaf guide and Nigel Med calf from St, Josephs deaf/blind residential home Stillorgan Co.Dublin.both reeled in two 2lb Rainbow trout. A proud moment for both.. as a deaf person and a first timer to fishing Deirdre took the bait. there was no cod’n around with her. Deirdre has the ability to observe more than we hearing people do’ Deirdre uses her eyes to hear’ Deirdre could see the ripples slowly form in the water and her teaching guide ‘pierce’ whom is blind but of hearing was able to hear the fish. so with both using their sensory abilities, they sucessfully reeled in the finest catch of the day…
