Eddie Long PRO of Naas and District Anglers reports on the second round of their winter league which took place last Sunday 14 December. They were due to fish Lough Aisling but it hadn’t been fishing well so they moved the venue to Carlow town. Unfortunately, with extremely high water levels on the Barrow and increased flow it was deemed unfishable so they decided to go instead for Ardree and Levitstown in Athy.
The weather was to be bad but thankfully it turned out great, very mild, overcast and very little wind. Everyone who fished on Sunday would agree that it was a brilliant day out, great craic and great nets of fish were had by all. Not a single person blanked which is not too bad considering there were 22 anglers on the bank.
4 Sections were fished
Section 1 Levitstown was won by Deividas Noreika with a 30lb 9oz and second in section went to Andrius Simbelis with 16lb 8oz.
Section 2 Levitstown/Ardree was won by Neil Keane with 15lb 4oz and second in section was Trev Campbell with 12lb 9oz.
Section 3 Ardree was won by Paul McLoughlin with 24lb 2oz and second in section was Lukasz Cisla with 20lb 14oz.
Section 4 Ardree was won by Marius Matuiza with 13lb 5oz and second in section was Marcin Kantor with 8lb 1oz.
Junior member Michael Kelly got 13lbs 1oz and had a fantastic roach of 1lb 10oz, well done Michael!
We also had some guests fish with us, Christie Moore and Ronald Durkin, thanks for Joining us! Also Ollie Doyle joined us on the bank gave a few tips, cheers Ollie 😉
Eddie says that the second round of our winter league came very close to being cancelled but thankfully due to the fantastic efforts of Paul McLoughlin who checked out several venues during the previous week to see where was safe and where was fishing. He also spent the evening before pegging out for the match. I know I can speak for everyone in our club by saying thanks a million Paul, we really appreciate all your hard work, you are a legend!!!
