James O’Doherty took top individual honours at the Waterways Ireland Schools Coarse Angling Competition recently.
The competition took place on the Lower River Bann at Magherafelt District Council’s coarse angling facility near Portglenone on the 11th October.
Conditions on the day were quite good for the match however there was very little flow on the river which made angling difficult.
Tactics were largely determined by the experience of the anglers. Those juniors with some experience and tackle fished the pole while others used feeder tactics. Weighs were caught on both methods and the best recorded weight was 2.08 kg by James O’Doherty from Erne Integrated College, Fermanagh….
