13 fish in the first week of the season at Ballisodare Fishery

A successful opening day was held at the Ballisodare Fishery on Tuesday April 1^st with a total of six salmon caught. John Scanlon had a fine fish of 14.5lbs. taken on the worm about 5 minutes after the river opened – a great start to the day!  A short while later, David Crawley won the trophy for the first fly caught salmon of the season, kindly sponsored by Mr Ken Tucker of Douglas Jewelers, Co Carlow. David’s fish weighed in at 6.5lbs.

Later in the week another 7 salmon were caught making it 13 fish for the first week of the season – a very promising start! Best flies included Willie Gunn tube fly, Posh Tosh tube fly and Flamethrower.
