Shane Gallagher reports from the River Drowes:
Its been a pretty mixed bag since Friday. On Saturday 2 fish were reported toward evening after a quiet day. John O’ Neil had an 8lbs fish on a yellow belly devon from the Mill Pool and Brian Mc Evoy had a 10lbs fish on rapala from the Meadow. Sunday fished better with 5 fish reported ranging from 5lbs to 12.5lbs, S. Morgan had a 6lbs fish on prawn from the Wash Stones, J. Mc Loughlin had an 8.5lbs fish on a blue and silver devon minnow from the Meadow, K. Osbourne had a lovely 12.5lbs fish on prawn from the Wash Stones, there was another sealiced fish of 5lbs from the Wash Stones on flying c and G. Dawson had a 7lbs fish on fly from Brineys.
Fish of the week goes to George “Geordie” Matier who had a beautiful fresh 8lbs fish on prawn from the Blackwater on Tuesday. The wee man from Bangor has the heart of a lion, fishing and landing salmon in his 84th year and on only his second day fishing this season. Well done Geordie!
The gauge is just over 0.7 metres and falling slowly. The last 2 days have been dry and bright with showery, colder weather forecast for tomorrow and Friday before turning milder for the weekend.
This Saturday, 29th March is the last Saturday of the month and the Lareen stretch from Lough Melvin to the Four Masters’ Bridge will be fly only on Saturday.
