Ghillie Vincent Appleby reports on the salmon and sea trout fishing in the past week on Lough Currane from his blog athttp://wwwsalmonandseatroutphotos.blogspot.com/

21/08/14 We start with the fly and day shift department, Mr. Jim Sayers of Waterville caught a fine 2 ¾ lbs sea Trout and topped that with 2 fine Juniors and not to be out done, his good friend Mr. john Walsh also caught 2 Juniors. Staying with the fly department, on the evening shift, Mr. Donagh McCarthy of the USA and of Waterville, caught 5 Sea Trout from Junior class up 3 lbs. while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com Wind North fresh with the odd heavy shower.

Currane - Wild Atlantic Salmon 222/08/14 There was some reasonable action on the Waterville fishery today, so lets get into the striking zone, first to the Sea Trout department, Mr. John Magee and Mr. Neil Shayers of the UK caught 5 Sea Trout from Junior class up to 3 lbs. all caught on the fly, while fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and for the rest of the fly anglers on the lake the least said the soonest mended so on that note we will head down stream to the World famous Butler Pool and catch and release of the day and that goes to Mr. John Eames of the UK who caught a fine Salmon on the fly and not to be outdone his good friend Mr. Diego Peralta of Rio Gallegos Fishing Lodge, of Argentina, also caught a fine Salmon on the fly, all while fishing with their supreme Gillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer. Wind light North with bright sunshine.

Currane - Wild Atlantic Salmon23/08/14 All the action comes from the Big Lake/Lough Currane, first to the day shift and in the striking fly zone were 2 UK Anglers Mr. John Magee and Mr. Neil Shayers, with 2 Trout on the Drift, while fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and in the Sea Trout trolling department Alan and Cameron Shiel from Dublin caught 3 Juniors, with their Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com Now to the Night Shift and Mr. Donagh McCarthy of the USA and Waterville, caught 7 Sea Trout on the fly, ranging from Junior class up to 3lbs.while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com  Wind West light to calm all day, with reasonable cloud cover.

24/08/14 There was just 1 Sea Trout reported of 1 ½ lbs. caught on the fly, by Mr. Tony O’Sullivan, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea and of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com and there was a strong SE wind blowing down the lake with rain on and off all day. Now to the personal department I would like to apologize to Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and at [email protected] for missing his phone call this afternoon, reason being I was in north Kerry so if I missed your catches all will be put right into tomorrow’s  notes once again sorry for this. On that note we end with a wise crack. An angler comes to Waterville and he stops at the first bed and breakfast, he rings the door bell and he tells the landlady, I want t fish here, the landlady replies well bloody fish there then.

25/08/14 We start in the backdate department as promised from Waterville Boats and at [email protected] 24/08/14 the Lough Leane Anglers headed out in wild conditions on Lough Currane for their annual competition, as the Kingdom of Kerry were battling it out at Croke Park with the Boys of Co Mayo, only to land up heading for Limerick but thankfully the Lough Leane Anglers got their result and they are as follows, (1) Mr. Batty O’Brian (2) Mr. Jerry Buckley (3) Mr. Denis Cronin (4) Mr. Timmy O’Connor and just for the record they also lost some good Sea Trout and Salmon and if you Lough Leane Anglers are not satisfied with my report don’t hesitate to email me to put the record straight. Reason being when the phone went off, the line was cat, you could say if yesterdays game was played on a mobile Kerry would have lost. Now back to today’s results   Lough Currane was wild with a strong SE wind blowing down the lake and heavy rain on and off all day and it has made a reasonable flood. Just for the record very few boats ventured out. On the evening shift Mr. Donagh McCarthy of the USA and Waterville, caught 2 Sea Trout on the fly, while fishing with his gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com

26/08/14 It made a reasonable flood with 17mm of rainfall recorded even though the land took most of it, Lough Currane rose about 5 inches and livened the lake, the fish and anglers alike. Now to the today’s action. In the Salmon and Sea trout department. Mr. Terry O’Keeffe caught a fine 4 lbs. Salmon on the fly and his good friend, Mr. Declan McKibble caught 3 Sea Trout ranging from 2 lbs up to 3 lbs. and their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com was telling that Declan also lost a fine Salmon and just for the record they only kept a Sea Trout of 2 lbs. and the 4lbs. Salmon. Now to the total Sea Trout department Mr. Jim Sayers of Waterville had a great day and those are his words not mine but I can understand why. Jim caught 3 Sea Trout all in the 3 to 4 lbs class and finished his day off with 5 Juniors. Jims selection of fly was the Black Aunt and the Silver Watson. Wind light to calm WSW and overcast and very humid this afternoon.

27/08/14 Lough Currane was on the wild side for most of the day with a strong SE wind blowing down the lake, plus there was heavy showers throughout the day and with all the elements against my Noble Anglers a few did venture out and came up trumps. First in the Sea trout fly striking zone was Mr. Miles Tandy, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley, caught 5 Sea Trout to his rod, ranging from Juniors up to 2 lbs. Now to catch of the day fly department and that goes to Mr. Donagh McCarthy of the USA and Waterville, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a fine 6 lbs Grilse and finished their day off with a Trout.

That is your ration for the week on Lough Currane, from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts.
