Lindsey Clarke reports from OWENEA FISHERY – Monday 11th to Sunday 17th August 2014.

We received no major floods this week but there were a number of freshes which meant that the river had fair water levels on Tuesday (0.20m), Wednesday (0.22m), Thursday (0.20m) and Sunday (0.20m). The gauge average for the week was reasonable reading 0.18 metres. 34 visiting rods fished over the week. There was fair numbers of salmon caught this week and given here are some of the catches taken from the catch register. On Wednesday, Alan Watson recorded a 6lb grilse caught and released on a fly from beat 8. Michael McCrory reported 2 salmon caught on a fly from beat 7. These weighed 4 & 10lb. Anthony Carty logged a 5lb grilse caught on a spinner from beat 7. Gary McHugh registered a 6lb grilse caught on a spinner from beat 7. Fabrice Craipeau recorded a 6½lb grilse caught from beat 8 and Frankie Byrne accounted for 2 salmon caught from beat 4. These were caught on a fly and weighed 7lb each with one of these being released. On Friday, Richard Caselli recorded a 5lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 8 and Paul Brennan accounted for a 5lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 9.
The forecast for the coming week is for unsettled weather and hopefully this will result in rainfall and some decent water levels.
