Weather confined  Hamish Currie and crew to inshore waters last weekend but some good fish were met all the same…

Saturday gave us SW winds, force 5-6 so we decided to make use of the headlands and fish a deep trough north of Red Bay. There was no chance of getting offshore to the herring and coalfish ground so frozen bait was the order of the day.

First up was a strap conger for William Watson. Then we had a juvenile skate for William followed by another juvenile for Brian Menary. Congers then dominated the catch until Frank from Belfast hooked and landed a skate of 107lbs.

All in all wasn’t a bad day considering the appalling weather conditions. Sunday didn’t happen as there was just far too much wind. Ah well its another fortnight before we try again.

The area is fishing very, very well and I feel that every time we get out its game on at this time of year.
