Ghillie/Guide Vincent Appleby describes how the week went on Lough Currane:
09/04/14 There were a few boats manipulating their flies and lures, but alas they failed to entice my Noble Game Fish be it Salmon or Sea Trout, so going by today’s performance my Noble Anglers had too much drink on the slate last night, on that note, we will head upstream to Lough Derriana and let Mr. Michael Jones and his good friend Mr. Maurice Willis, tell about their days action. We had great sport on Lough Derriana, nothing big, but we had over 40 Trout to the boat, (4 nice Trout over 12 inches ideal for the table) No Duck Fly. Maurice, had a Kelt and I broke in another Kelt, but all in all a great day out. Wind SW light and overcast.

10/04/14 You could say today was a Family affair in the wild Atlantic Salmon and Sea trout department. First in the striking zone was Mr. Paul Curran of London, who caught a fine 9 lbs Salmon on the troll while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and at [email protected] and staying with Waterville Boats, Mr. Eric Jouen, caught a cracker of a Sea Trout in the 9 lbs class on the troll, on the south side. Wind SW this morning then veered NE in the afternoon. Now to the local news department, the international renowned Lobster Bar got a new facelift today, in more ways than one!

11/04/14 There was a light NW wind blowing, and it wasn’t long before Mr. Axel ZurBrugge, trolling rod was singing the Lough Currane’s National anthem, and after a good battle with his Noble Salmon his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com took the net, and in one swipe there were smiles all round as Axel admired his fine 10 lbs. Salmon. Just for the record Mr. Axel ZurBrugge, was fishing out of www.butlerarms.com

12/04/14 Attention All Gillie’s, look out there is a young Gillie in the making so we better watch it, because there was history made today On Lough Currane when 4 year old Fionan Brain caught his first Wild Atlantic Salmon, weighing in at 10 lbs and as he arrived back at the Bog, Inland fisheries Officer Mr. Sean Moran was there to make sure he had his licence and I can tell you he was one proud young man to show his Salmon licence and his Noble Salmon and may it be the first of many. Now for rest of the news there isn’t
any. Wind NW light with misty rain this morning then the sun broke through.

13/04/14 Straight to the trolling and the C & R department, a guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught and returned a fine 11 lbs Salmon. Staying in the trolling department, Mr. Axel ZurBrugge Of Germany, fishing out of www.butlerarms.com and with his Gillie Mr. Neil O‘Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a fine 9 lbs Salmon on the troll. Now for quote of the day and that comes from a German Angler, Mr. Axel ZurBrugge, I have been fishing 10 days and caught 3 Salmon, I think that’s very good, and I can tell you Axel there is no argument to that. Wind NW light with reasonable cloud cover.

14/04/14 Sun may have been bright and the sky’s clear with a light Variable wind but this didn’t  deter my Noble salmon into action, first in the striking zone was a guest fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com caught a fine Salmon in the 10 lbs class on the troll and staying in the trolling department, there was a cracker of a Salmon in the 11 lbs class, caught by Mr. Tam Hitmiang of Waterville. Now for quote of the day and that comes from Tam’s good wife Mrs. Marietta Hitmiang, behind every great man there is a great women and going by today’s fishing performance there is no argument to that.
