Sean Carty of Carty’s Land and Sea Sports in Bundoran, Co. Donegal updates us on the fishing in the north of the country:
This weekend the annual Bundoran Sea Angling club open boat competition in conjunction with the final day of the Carty’s Ulster closed gold medal boat league was held in Bundoran on Sunday .Conditions on the day were first class and there was a good turnout of 30 anglers filling 3 boats to capacity . The 3 boats on the day were the Bundoran Star , the Dunai Mara and the Prospector . Fishing was made tough by the sheer number of Mackerel in the bay being so dense that anglers were unable to get there bait through them to reach other target species .
The clear winner on the day was Killybegs angler Gavin Dorrian who won the Willy Daly cup and an Artico rod that was part sponsored by Carty’s Land and Sea Sports. 2nd place on the day went to Liam O Connor and 3rd place went to David McCormack . The winner of the junior section was Dylan Doherty with Conal Slatter in 2nd place . The best overall lady angler on the day was Yvonne Carey . The prize for the most species on the day went to Gavin Dorrian and the best Bundoran club angler on the day was Michael Patton . The longest fish prize went to Boris Siegel and the wooden spoon prize went to Brendan McErlaine. The best boat on the day and winner of the highly sought after Tom Duffy cup was Peter Power and the Prospector .Bundoran Boat and Sea Angling club would like to thank all the sponsors of this years event who were Carty’s Land and Sea Sports , The Bundoran Star , The Bike stop , The Marine bar , Barretts tackle , Tom Martin , Guy Morgan , Peter Power and the Pheonix tavern .Also the club would like to thank all the anglers who join in the competition every year and make it such a success .
