John Sheehan reports from Tralee Bay Sea Angling Club:
Hard to believe it’s that time of year again . Tralee Sea Bay Angling Club Xmas comp took place on the pier in Fenit .Weather was looking good, dry and a little breezy but not too cold for this time of year. There was a great turn out on the day and a great mix of new and old members from the club of all age’s and their family’s.
28 anglers took part and 91 fish were caught and released. The fish were not playing ball but with it being the Xmas comp the crack was good. From the start Mark Greenwood was off the mark with a dab on his first cast. He was on the low number pegs.
After that all along the pier a few dabs were showing up with Connie and David O Sullivan having a dab each of 30cm. Chris O’ Sullivan and Eugene Farrelly were getting a few fish too. Phil Ord was on his peg and had a plan and was sticking to it….. conger all the way or nothing!!!!
With an hour to go he was rewarded with a cracker a 21 lb monster a strap conger and an under size dab.
Our junior anglers seemed to have a great day as well.
A lot of fun was had on the day, Six o clock seemed to come to soon and that was it .
Once again the greyhound bar was the venue prize giving: Just a small note – a big thank you to Aidan and family and all the staff for looking after us on the night and as they have done for years
