Killarney angler Jerry Looney has landed the first salmon of the season in just ten minutes.
The keen fisherman from Woodlawn set off for one of his favoured fishing spot at the Long Range outside Killarney on Saturday morning and it didn’t take him long to land his catch of the day.
About ten minutes after he cast his first line, spinning a blue and silver minnow, he caught the 11lb salmon.
His catch, at 8.35am, came just over half an hour into the local salmon fishing season.
It’s not the first time Jerry (80), a very experienced angler with years of experience, has bagged the first salmon of the year in Kerry. He also landed the first salmon of the season in Kerry back in 2009….
