HIGH winds on Lough Mask forced the cancellation of the World Cup Trout Fly Fishing Competition for the first time in the competition’s history.
The decision to cancel the competition was made on Sunday evening after Met Éireann issued a yellow warning for high winds for the west of Ireland. The final of the competition is traditionally held on the Monday of the August Bank Holiday and 125 anglers were to take to the water.
Denis Kelleher, a spokesperson for the World Cup Trout Fly Fishing Competition committee, told The Mayo News yesterday evening that this was the first time they cancelled the competition because of the weather, but they felt they made the right decision…
