With the salmon season now closed angling guide Peter Cunningham has turned his attention to the pike fishing with a session yesterday on Lough Ramor in Co Cavan. The water was crystal clear with a very light breeze on occasions but it was generally flat calm. Temperatures were also high with it being more like a summers day than the middle of October. Ramor can be a tough venue at times and so it was yesterday with any fish caught being hard won. Another angler on the lake was spending his third day on Ramor and it was his success yesterday that make it all worthwhile, boating 2 fish over 20lbs.

Conditions were ideal for the fly but disappointingly not a single fish showed the slightest interest in any of these fur and feather offerings. Peters’ boat also had a few fish to the mid teens for the day with lures and dead bait producing the results. The fish were in very good condition and fought very hard before a quick photo and then being released back to the waters of the Lough. A number of fish followed lures to the boat but not taking the bait or displaying that awesome pike aggression. The session finished with a beautiful sunset with all to play for on the next outing.
