Angling Guide Michael Flanagan reports:

On Sunday Morning Derravaragh Anglers eventually got the Christmas pike competition fished, plus on the same day the Weir Cup was up for grabs. All week the Derravaragh Officers were keeping an eye on Storm Desmond, and it was given a bright day for Sunday with light to moderate winds. The competition was fished from 11am-3-30pm, and it was tough going on a very flooded Derravaragh. On the day only a few small pike were caught, and local Angler James Ledwith of Multyfarnham produced the winner. Ollie Daly presented James with his just awards.

It was encouraging to see a few young anglers venturing out on the day, and hopefully in 2016 we will see more of the same. Liam Gilsenan Chairman of Derravaragh Anglers thanked all who supported the competition in 2015, and wished all their members a Happy Christmas. Early in the New Year a date will be set for the Annual General Meeting, and new members are more than welcome to join Derravaragh Angling Association.
