Hermann Molenaar reports that a couple of Belgian anglers fishing with him this week on Lough Derg are doing well. They are not getting big numbers of fish but they passed the meter mark on Monday with a nice fish on a jerkbait. As Hermann says “When they are happy I’m happy!”.
Shallow casting a 20cm line thru lure has worked well for Paul Bourke this week getting his own 100cm plus pike. He is also getting some good fish on jerk baits. Clients fishing with Paul over the weekend had good sport, one angler getting stuck into his first ever pike and another starting the day with a decent fish on the first cast.
Pierre Monjarret is fishing pike over the deeps and in shallow water casting softbaits. In the last few days he and his clients have had pike of 101cm, 103cm and two of 108.5cm.
Meanwhile TJ from TJs Angling Centre sums up the pike fishing on Derg for the last week – blue skies, soft breezes and fish on the line, what more can we ask for. Aurelie from Switzerland was fishing from one of TJ’s boat when she managed to managed to tempt a lovely pike of 92cm.
Ken O’Neill IFI reports from Lough Derg that there were many anglers fishing the St Flannans and the Ballina / Killaloe Angling Club last weekend – utilising the ideal angling conditions for Pike. The pike catches have been varied – when one competition most anglers caught pike, and another competition a week later relatively few anglers caught pike. Sometimes it’s the luck on the day.
However, there have been some rewardingly large Pike caught and released during these competitions. The next competition for Pike is next Sunday the 18th October (9am – 6pm) contact the St Flannans Angling Cub for more details.
The Scarriff River is also fishing well according to Peter Toth from O’Callaghansmills who was catching pike – mainly jack pike.
