Michael Flanagan tells us the pike fishing is going well at Derravaragh and elsewhere in the midlands…
On the pike scene I had a few hours on Derravaragh with Jonathan Casey, and we struggled to entertain the pike on Derravaragh.We gave it a good blast, and fished lures and dead baits, and only boated one pike. The lake did produce some fine pike for other anglers, and pike to 20lbs were caught on Derravaragh last week. Now with the Easter Bank Holiday weekend coming up you would be advised to book a boat early if planning a trip.
On Ennell young Cian Hope banked his first ever pike last week, and was delighted with his prized catch. As wiht Derravaragh, Ennell will see quite a few anglers heading out over Easter, and boats are available at Lilliput Boat hire. Give Pete a bell on 087-6492866 if Ennell is your destination. Crumlin brothers Paul and Peter Freeman had a fantastic days pike fishing recently here in the Midlands. The lads were dead baiting and banked an incredible 16 pike in one session. This included a personal best for Paul at 15lbs, and a super pike over 20lbs for Peter. Peter told Angling Focus it was an incredible days fishing and all methods worked, which included Floated dead baits, ledgered dead bait, and also a few pike were caught on the sink and draw method.
