Once again we have some great pike reports from Lough Derg from the last week. French angling guide Pierre Montjarret has been busy with the big girls on the lake and has had a good number of 100cm plus fish for his clients. Paul Bourke has also been producing the goods with a new PB for one angler. Though if you didn’t know better you might think some of the photos were taken back in July…

Peter with his new PB pike – 104cm

On Sunday, November 1, there were summer like conditions once more on the lake. The highlight for Paul’s session was a new personal best for Peter. The pike was 104 cm, and described as a really thick fish. The lure, for those interested, was a 3d rattle shad brown trout colour, which has worked well this season for Paul and his clients.

Wrapped up warm, life jackets on, pike in the boat – what windy weather?

Pierre started the weekend with 2 young brothers from Dublin who are mad about pike fishing. The conditions were windy but they managed 5 fish to the boat. the biggest of these was 92 cm.  Pierre tells us these youngsters were great to fish with as there was no end to their enthusiasm.

A 104 cm pike for Pierre, caught casting over a shallow shoal of baitfish

On Saturday Pierre was fishing with lady angler Leona who caught her first pike. A lovely fish of 104cm which weighed in at 8.46kg (over 18.5lb in old money). Tuesday saw him back on the water with another couple of clients. They fished in very foggy conditions and had a some decent fish. The best two were 100cm and 101cm. On Wednesday the fish finder was put to good use. Once the shoals of bait fish were located Pierre was casting to the waiting pike. Best fish of the day was 104 cm ( 8.40 kg) on a sinking X buster .

Earlier last week French Angler Eugene Boffy had some good pike in Scarriff Bay. He reported the fishing to be slow but any fish encountered were worth waiting for.
