Ian Powell reports that there were a few salmon met yesterday on what was a beautiful St Patricks Day along the Munster Blackwater…
17 March: It was a beautiful bright day here today. Air temperature +9ºC at 18.30. The forecast continues to be for high pressure building over Ireland. It should be dry from this evening right through this week with some cool nights. The upper river at Millstreet (80km upstream of the Lodge) is still falling slowly but steadily. The middle river at Killavullen (37km upstream of the Lodge) is also dropping slowly but steadily. It is down to 1.61m at 22.00 this evening. Clarity was about 5 feet. The lower river at Ballyduff is still falling quite quickly. It is down to 0.81m at 22.00 this evening. Clarity is about 5 feet.
Water temperature at Ballyduff: 8.4ºC / 47.2ºF @ 22.00.
Water temperature at Killavullen: 7.5ºC / 45.5ºF @ 22.00.
Today was our Best Day of the Season to date with three springers caught on the upper river.

We also recorded the Best Bag so far as Colm Dooly from Mallow who landed two springers in three casts on Carrig – just below Mallow. One was a nice 7lb fish which he kept and the other he sportingly relased
Prospects.
The river was in excellent order for spinning today. It was still a bit high for the fly today but the clarity is superb. The upper beats should be in fly order tomorrow Wednesday. With the dry weather continuing, the river will continue to improve steadily,
and the next seven days look very promising indeed! The river is settling down and fish are starting to come on the take.
We have spring tides at the end of the week which will peak on Friday, Saturday & Sunday at 4.1m in Youghal.
