Shane Gallagher reports from Drowes Fishery:
06/12/2015 With less than 4 weeks to the opening of the salmon season on the river Drowes, storm Desmond has sent the river into record breaking flood conditions of 1.37 metres. More than a normal months amount of rain fell in the last 36 hours. My four year old daughter looked out this morning and said “look daddy, the rivers under water”. A flood of this magnitude has not been experienced in living memory. There will certainly be extensive damage to walkways and bridges revealed when the flood waters retreat. It has also had an affect on wildlife, such as otters, dippers and kingfishers. The flood is also likely to have an adverse effect on this year’s spawning.
There will be no change in permit prices for the 2016 season. Salmon licences are also now available and there has been no increase in prices either.
Anglers are reminded to return their 2015 log books to:
IFI
Station Road
Ballyshannon
Co. Donegal
Log books that are returned later than the end of January will not be included in catch returns and will negatively affect the allowable salmon catch in the coming season. There are low log book return rates for this area. The river Duff will be catch and release only next season. It is vitally important to return your catch returns and do so before the deadline of the end of January. Non return of log books will result in the non recording of salmon caught or returned and will result in more river closures and greater restrictions on anglers.
