Lindsey Clarke reports from Owenea Fishery – Monday 1st  to Sunday 7th June 2015.

The Owenea had good water over the week. There was a big flood on Monday (0.45m) which gave good water levels on Tuesday (0.34m). The river then fell over the next two days until we received a good flood again on Friday (0.28m) and a big flood on Saturday (0.42m) which gave good water levels on Sunday (0.20). The gauge average for the week reflected the wet conditions reading a high 0.30 metres. The river fished well with salmon recorded from most beats.

On Tuesday, Davey Sullivan recorded an 11½lb salmon caught on a fly from beat 9. On Wednesday one of the local anglers accounted for an 8lb salmon caught from beat 9. On Thursday, Alan Mooney reported an 8½lb salmon caught on a fly from beat 9 and John Northridge accounted for a 4¾lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 3.

On Saturday, Billy Blair recorded a 13lb salmon caught from beat 8. Anthony Carr reported a 9½lb salmon caught on a fly from beat 4 and John Northridge accounted for 2 salmon weighing 7¼ and 9½lb caught on a fly from beats 4 & 2 respectively. On Sunday, Alan Watson recorded 10lb salmon caught on a fly from beat 5. Tommy Irvine reported a 4½lb grilse caught on a spinner from beat 8 and Raymond Crawford accounted for a 6½lb grilse caught on worm from beat 8.
