The weather for day 2 of the Winter Shore Angling Festival was a complete turn around on that experience by anglers on day 1 of the event. Bright sunshine was replaced by overcast skies with an increase in wind speed and some light persistent drizzly showers. Temperatures were good, it was still very mild and it looked like a great fishing day!

The beaches at Ballinesker, Co Wexford were the venue for day 2 of the Festival and despite fears that the location might have to be changed due to bad weather, thankfully it went ahead at the chosen location. The water was coloured and the tide was on the ebb during the whole of this 5 hour session.

From the “all in” fish were taken at intervals along the beach with some nice flounder and dabs being taken.  After about an hour, the early activity had slowed for most anglers and many had to work extremely hard to keep the fish coming in. A number of anglers however seemed to still have fish in front of them as the tide dropped further and managed to grind out those extra doubles and trebles that would make the difference at the end of the day.

The fishing was difficult for some anglers but great catches were recorded by some anglers. Chris Clark and Shay O’Neill had 29 and 28 fish respectively and Ashley Sampson also recorded a great catch. Other notable catches were recorded by Joe Byrne with 21 fish, and Peadar Taite, Alan Mulcahy and Saul Page all with good numbers.

The best flatfish today was a nice 33cm flounder with one each being taken by Ian Knight and Ashley Sampson. The best round fish was a 30cm whiting taken by E. Andrews and a 27cm whiting by D. Tucker.

We look forward to the final day of fishing tomorrow and will bring you the updates and results as soon as they are available. It promises to be an exciting finish yet again this year.
