Waterford & District Coarse Angling Club held their first ‘Master Angler’ competition of the series on the Griffins Garden Centre stretch of Inniscarra Lake this Sunday. David Norbury 38lb 1oz
The seven members joined with the 17 fishing a knock-up on the venue, mainly visiting anglers over from the UK for the upcoming Fermoy festival and a couple of pleasure anglers. All were hoping for a repeat of the good weights of the previous weekend with a light breeze rippling the water and plenty of cloud cover. Fresh bait was collected from Trev Platt and with the draws made the match was underway at midday.
The wind picked up a little during the match and anglers fishing the pole struggled with presentation and banks of floating weed made life difficult for everyone at times. Fish were hard to come by on the shallower pegs near the fishery entrance and at the end it was the end peg that came up trumps!
David Norbury put 38 lb 1 oz on the scales to comfortably take first place. Fishing 5m to hand in 8 feet of water small hybrids, skimmers and a few roach came regularly and a run of bigger bream towards the end capped off a great days fishing.
Runner’s up spot went to Bert Hunter who re-acquainted himself with some of the bigger bream on the feeder for 17lb 4oz. while Csavnicky Krisztianwas third with 15-8 of pole caught fish.
