Joe Fitzharris reports on some excellent fishing on Lake O’Flynn. The club recently hosted the Annual Donnellan Cup on Sunday 7th of June. Fishing was excellent for this event and as the weather warms the prospects for trout fishing on this water are good. Conditions were average on the day but anglers reported rising good numbers of fish. The trout were caught on a variety of patterns which included Dabblers, Muddlers, Sedges and Humungus flies.
In a keenly contested event between the visiting anglers and the locals Connamara men Jackie Coyne and partner Gerry Dixon took the spoils on the day, once again taking the much coveted Donnellan Cup to Galway.
Results were as follows,
- 1st place and winners of Donnellan Cup 2015 Jackie Coyne and partner Gerry Dixon with 8 fish for 14lb 11.0 oz.
- 2nd Derek Madden & Gary Madden with 8 fish for 14lb 01.00 oz.
- 3rd Michael McDermott & Pat Satchwell with 8 fish for 13-lb 15.2 oz.
- 4th John Somerville & Barry Molloy.
The Heaviest fish was taken by Paddy Purcell with a fish of 2lb 07.0 oz.
