Competition report
Congratulations to the juniors from Lurgan Coarse Angling Club who win the first ever Junior All Ireland Angling Club Championshiops fished today on the Newry Canal. The venue, with kind permission of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council was O’Rourkes bank.
Just behind Lurgan’s 9 points came Erne Anglers A Team with 10 and in third place Oakland’s club team with 14 points.
The canal fished well with fish for everyone from the off and good catches all along the canal producing an average weight of 2kg for the juniors.
President of the NCFFI, Oliver McGauley, Newry Coarse Fish Angling Club presented a range of fantastic tackle prizes, trophies and medals to the winning teams & individuals sponsored by Tubertini UK LTD and fishery managers Loughs Agency – Angling
The highly successful event fished by six club teams from as far away as Co. Wexford in excellent weather conditions concluded with a BBQ on the bank sponsored by O’Doherty’s Fine Meats of Enniskillen.
A great day’s event for the Newry canal and an enjoyable day for the Junior club teams. We are already looking forward to next years championships where we can expect an increased number of club teams in attendance!
