Angling guide Michael Flanagan reports on the pike fishing at Lough Ennell…
After all the recent rain and high waters Lough Ennell looked a million Dollars last Sunday Morning as I trolled for pike. It’s still a bit high but the water was quite clear to the naked eye. I had picked up a few colorful Lures from the bargain bucket in Wild Total Outdoors angling center, and the Ennell pike took a shine to some of these lures. Hard to believe you can pick up 6 lures for 20 euro, I remember when these large Bulldags came out first they were 20 Euro each.
The Ennell Pike were in great condition, and I hope to venture back out on Ennell in the coming days. Quite a few locals were out walking near Whitebridge Bay and I met with Frank & Noreen Abbott while walking George his faithful Terrier. Frank soon will be taking the cover off his 19ft Sheelin Boat to do a few days fishing.
Stan Ryan and Barry O’Shea were on Ennell last Tuesday and hit the jackpot big time. The lads boated some beautiful looking pike on a variety of colourful lures.
Stan drops in to Mullingar regularly for a day’s pike fishing, and it was my first time to have Barry in my boat. A personal best pike was landed by Barry, and I reckon we will see him back in Westmeath in the coming weeks.
