Alice Murtagh IFI from the Corlesmore office reports on the great fun had by our younger anglers at the recent competition on Lough Gowna:
Cold weather is leaving angling very slow for the coarse angler while pike anglers are catching plenty of small pike. There are parties of French, German and Belgium anglers in the region and they report plenty of small pike in the Killeshandra, Gowna, Cootehill and Arva area.

Lough Gowna and Upper Erne Angling Association held a junior competition on Lough Gowna last Sunday. 16 boats took part with 32 children participating. Overall heavest bag on Stephen Lee’s boat was 53lb 10ozs – Cian Halton, Liam Gray and Saskia Lee, next bag weighed 29lb 8 ozs and third bag 27lb 9ozs. Heaviest pike on the day was 11lb 2 ozs Liam Gray, coming in second with a 6lb pike was James Miney and third Jack Smith with 5lb 15ozs. An enjoyable day was had by all.
