Vincent Appleby reports on the last few days fishing at Lough Currane…
20/04/2016 There was some great fishing on Lough Lough Currane today, so lets go straight to the action. Local Angler Mr.
Martin Lanigan O’Keeffe caught a fine Salmon on the fly in the 7 lbs. Class, while fishing with his Gillie the Fly man, the one and only Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com and Dominic’s quote of the day. Not bad 3 Salmon in three days, from the Top fly man on Lough Currane. Well who am i to argue ? Staying with the fly, UK Angler Mr. Arnold Slater was in great form, while fishing off the Morgan’s Rock, he caught himself a fine Salmon just over the 8 lbs. His Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com wasn’t satisfied with that, so on their way home he put the trolling rods out and caught a fine Salmon in the 7 lbs. Class which Tom played himself and as Tom netted his Salmon, Arnold said, its a pity its not 12th of May with a raw smile and Tom replied, agree, but not bad, two Salmon in one day. Wind ESE light with sunshine all day, with reasonable cloud cover at times. fishing with his Gillie the Fly man, the one and only Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com and Dominic’s quote of the day. 21/04/2016 Lough Currane came up with the goods again, all in the trolling department and first in the striking zone was US angler and no stranger to the Waterville Fishery, was Mr. Peter Thornton, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville boats and at [email protected] caught a cracker of a Salmon in the 9 lbs. Class and on a personal not I would like to apologize to Peter and Michael for not coming down to take the photo, but sadly had trouble starting my bike and you can say without any fear of contradiction the paparazzi failed miserably in his duties but going by the photo that Peter sent who the hell needs the paparazzi.
Talking of ones failings, I forgot to mention the other night that fine Specimen Sea Trout that Mr. Tom Murphy caught, it was the first Specimen Sea Trout to be caught on the fly this season so a belated congratulations. Now back today’s trolling, also in good form was Kenmare angler Mr. Dick Elder, while fishing with the fly man Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a fine Salmon in the 8 lbs. Class. Wind NE light and overcast.
22/04/2016 Lough Currane was on the quiet side, the only bit of news was in the Salmon and Sea Trout frying department, and as you can see the Fly man of www.fishingwithdom.com turned fry man by showing his skills on how to use a frying pan and going by all accounts the Kerry fire service were on stand by and as you can see by the photo the truth of the fry is in the eating of. Wind calm this morning and come afternoon there was a light breeze from the west.
23/04/2016 There was a European flavour on Lough Currane toady and we start on mainland Europe, German Angler, Mr. Axel ZurBrugge and fishing out of www.butlerarms.com caught a fine 10 ½ lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Now we cut across the English Chanel, UK angler Mr. Arnold Slater, while fishing with his gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught a fine 7 lbs. Salmon on the troll. Wind East light to calm with bright sunshine all day.
24/04/2016 All the headlines come from the South side of the Lake and for good reason, German angler, Mr. Michael Rieger, caught a fine 6lbs. Salmon on the troll while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com and for the rest of the angling community they failed miserably in their duties in all departments. Wind North light with the odd light shower.
25/04/2016 There was some great fishing in the trolling department, on Lough Currane again today, so straight to the action. First in the striking zone, German Angler Mr. Axel ZurBrugge and fishing out of www.butlerarms.com caught a cracker of a 9 ½ lbs. Salmon on the troll while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com Now we cut back to the North Shore and Vince’s Harbour, Local angler Mr. Anulak Hitmiangsong and fishing out of the Smugglers and at http://www.thesmugglersinn.ie/ caught a fine 8 lbs. Salmon, also in good form and no stranger to Lough Currane was Mr. Paul Drennan, who caught a fine Salmon in the 10 to 11 lbs. class, with his Gillie. Now to the Sea Trout department, Mr. Phil White of the US and fishing out of http://www.curranelodge.ie/ caught a fine 5 lbs. 9 ozs Sea Trout on the troll while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton Jnr. Wind NE with reasonable cloud cover.
26/04/2016 Well today my Noble Anglers failed miserably in their duties in all departments and in the words of Local Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com there was a cold NE wind blowing and no good, so all I can say is the least said the soonest mended.
That is your ration from the opening days on Lough Currane, from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts.
