Vincent Appleby reports on the last few days fishing at Lough Currane…
27/4/16 It was bitterly cold day on Lough Currane today, but this didn’t deter Scottish Angler, Mr. Paul Tatner from venturing out on Waterville Lake, with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com. Tom trolled over to the South side and headed for Edery Bay, the next thing their rod went off and all hell broke out. By all accounts Paul had one hell of a battle which he won, his Salmon weighing in at 7 ½ lbs. Wind NE light with the odd April shower.
28/4/16 The anglers presentation of fly and lure was an utter disgrace in the eyes of the Wild Atlantic Salmon and Sea Trout, as my Noble Anglers failed miserably in their duties to procure a Lough Currane Game Fish. Downstream on the famous Butler Pool at www.watervillegolflinks.ie. The Fly man of www.fishingwithdom.com gave a Fly Man’s fly to Waterville pro Golfer, Mr. Liam Higgins, which he gladly excepted and within a few casts Liam caught the first Grilse of 2016. Wind NW fresh with reasonable cloud cover.
29/4/16 My Noble Anglers showed how it should be done today. It’s a pity the paparazzi can’t say the same but that’s another story. So lets get straight to the fly action and catch of the day. Mr. Enrico Fantasia of Dublin and fishing out of www.curranelodge.ie caught a cracker of a 10 lbs. Salmon on the fly. While fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com. Staying with the fly, UK angler Mr. John Fish, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan of www.vincentsfishing.com caught a fine 13 lbs. Salmon. Now to the C&R trolling department. Mr. Andy Wishart of Northern Ireland, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught and released a fine 7lbs. Salmon. Wind NE light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover at times.
30/4/16 Straight to the action, UK angler Mr. John Fish, while fly fishing with his Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley, caught a fine 9 lbs. Salmon off the point of the Grassy Island. Now we head for the trolling department. Mr. Michael Shultz of Berlin, Germany, caught a fine 10 lbs. Salmon, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com. Another fine Salmon was caught on the drift by local Angler Mr. Sion Brain. For the rest of my noble anglers, all quiet on the SW front. Wind West and veered SW this evening with reasonable cloud cover.
1/5/16 All the head lines go to Mr. Angus Sutherland, who caught a fine 8 ½ lbs. Salmon on the fly at the Ledge, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Junior Scully. For rest of my Noble manipulators they failed miserably in their duties. Wind SW fresh with good cloud cover with misty rain at times.
2/5/16 Lough Currane was on the wild side this Bank Holiday Monday, with a strong NW blowing and what boats ventured out failed to procure a Wild Atlantic Salmon or a Lough Currane specimen Sea Trout and in the words of one local angler and I quote, My day has gone, but the Lough Currane anglers will carry on. Yes I agree, but going by today’s standards its more like a carry on film!!
3/5/16 There was some good fishing in the trolling department, so straight to the action, Mr. and Mrs. William Timmermans of Waterville and Holland, caught a fine 7 ¼ lbs. Salmon on the troll.
Fishing out of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com and staying at the Bungalow, Mr. Michael Shultz of Berlin Germany, caught a fine 11 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea ofwww.oshealoughcurrane.com Wind SW fresh with reasonable cloud cover.
That is your ration from the last week on Lough Currane, from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts.
