Billy Downes reports that as of Tuesday 3rd May water level was above 1m at the Laune Bridge because of recent rainfall in catchment. Perfect water for all methods.

Sean Oakes and Michael Bowe with two of the loveliest shiniest fish I have seen so far this year

Still a good few sea trout being caught and the story from Thursday last was all about Sean Oakes and Michael Bowe who each landed a springer on the fly. Sean’s fish was 13 lbs and Michael’s was 10 lbs. Both were beautifully conditioned sea liced fish.

Over the weekend Danny Joy landed a fish of 10 lbs and lost another good fish both on the fly. Colm Heffernan lost a fine fish estimated to be about 15 lbs on the flying ‘C’.

A group of seven French anglers enjoyed a week’s fishing on our waters during the past week they managed to catch a good few sea trout but a springer eluded them.

As I always say if you get the timing right there is always a chance of a fish during the first two weeks of May at least until the legal commercial nets start. More sea trout are also still in prospect, most likely spinning or worm but lots have also been caught on fly already.
