Lindsey Clarke reports from the RIVER DROWES – Monday 11thApril  to Sunday 17th April 2016.

This week was drier for the main part and the Drowes dropped slowly over the week. On Monday the gauge read 0.62m and by the end of play on Sunday the gauge read 0.53m. The fishing was much better this week and there were 22 salmon caught that we have heard of to date. Given here are some of the catches. On Monday, Johnny B recorded a 12lb salmon caught on a fly from the Mill Pool and Stephen McGimpsey caught and released a 6lb salmon on a fly from Stakey’s.

On Tuesday, Richard Todd reported a 4lb grilse caught on prawn from the Sea Pools and Ryan Bourke accounted for a 6lb 10oz salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Wee Drain. On Wednesday, Brian McClintock recorded a 7¾lb salmon caught on fly from Scot’s Corner. Chris McDaid reported a 10lb salmon caught and released on a fly from the Mill Pool and Johnny Ciconte accounted for salmon 8lb and 12lb caught on prawn from the Money Hole with the larger of these being released again. On Thursday, Thomas Owens logged an 8lb salmon caught on a Rapala lure from The Meadow.

On Saturday, Colin Gardiner recorded an 8lb salmon caught on a Rapala from the Sand Hole. Eddie Roulston reported an 8lb salmon caught and released on a Rapala from the Sand Hole. Martin Smith registered an 8½lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Crooked Hole. Ryan Smith logged a 10lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from Scot’s Corner. Paul McGowan recorded a 7lb salmon caught on prawn from the Money Hole. William Rainey reported a 6lb salmon caught on worm from the Sea Pools and C. Taylor accounted for an 8lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Black Water. On Sunday, Dave Donnelly recorded a 6½lb salmon caught on a Rapala from Tinker’s Hole. Chris Doherty reported a 6½lb salmon caught on a fly from Lennox’s Bridge and Darryl Kennedy accounted for a 10lb salmon caught on prawn from the Meadow. There were a further 4 salmon caught on Sunday and we still await details of the same. Prospects look very good for the coming week

LOUGH MELVIN – Monday 11th April  to Sunday 17th April 2016.

Little to report this week on Melvin it seems. I have heard of 2 salmon caught but am awaiting details of the same. There was little trout angling effort this week it seems.
