Guide Vincent Appleby reports from Lough Currane where floods are causing problems….
28/09/16: All today’s action comes from the south side of the lake, Pierre from France was in top form today, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com he caught 6 Sea Trout ranging from Junior class up to 2 lbs. and finished his day off with a fine 5 lbs Grilse. Now to the back date department and apologies to Waterville House and at http://www.watervillegolflinks.ie for failing to report their action on the famous Butler Pool and yes, I failed miserably in my duties and that’s a fact, so lets put the record straight. On the 25th September, Mr. Rupert Simonds-Gooding, caught a fine Grilse on the fly. Staying with the backdate department, I had an email today from Mr. Kevin Nagle, and in his own words. Hi Vincent, I forgot to send a photo of a Sunday afternoon 25/9/16 C&R fish. Very nice trout about 7lbs. Very quick but poor quality photo before release. Had been up a week or two at least. Wind W then veered WSW fresh and overcast all day with heavy rain this evening.

29/09/16: The Lough Currane Anglers were in a silent mood as were Currane game fish, so on that note we will head for the backdate department or the specsavers department, yes you have it, I failed to double check my email box so apologies again to Waterville house and of www.watervillegolflinks.ie on the 25th of September, Mr. Donal O’ Neill, of Co. Meath, caught a fine 7 lbs 12 ozs Salmon on the fly. Wind West light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover with heavy showers this morning. As you all know tomorrow is the last day of the 2016 Salmon Season and its competition Time and its simple, the last Salmon caught on the Waterville Fishery of the 2016 season will win a Bottle of Paddy and all you have to do is text your catch and I will come in and photo your fish with the Bottle. Competition ends when the day is finished on the Butler pool.

caught on the Butler Pool
30/09/16: My Noble Lords and Lady’s and Anglers alike, The 2016 Salmon Season has come to a close and I have to inform all the followers of the Waterville Fishery that today my Noble Anglers failed miserably in their duties this day in all departments but not all is lost the Salmon Gear has been put to one side as the Sea Trout gear takes over until the 12th of October so let the battle of the Sea Trout continue. Wind WSW light to fresh with good cloud cover with heavy down pours at times.
01/10/16: There were a few Boats manipulating with their fly rods, but alas their lines were slack and their choice of fly, leave a lot to be desired, so on that note I have a message for all you doubting Thomas’s, I have had a few emails saying that there was no Bottle of Paddy for the last Salmon caught on the Waterville Fishery for 2016, well the truth of the pudding is in the eating and thankfully Paddy doesn’t have an expiry date so rock on 2017. Wind N light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover at times but mainly sunny.
02/10/16: Again my Noble Anglers were left red faced this evening as they entered bars to ponder their misgivings on their performance, as they all failed miserably in their duties in procuring a fine Currane Sea Trout, so on that lackadaisical note we will head up stream to the upper Lakes and Lough Derriana, Dr. Tim O’Connor caught 2 Juniors on the drift, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com Wind SE fresh with strong gusts at times with good cloud cover.
03/10/16: Lough Currane was at a standstill with a SE gale force wind with heavy rain and I mean heavy as you can see by clicking this link https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10206165522051843&id=1677581848 of the Coppal River, Video courtesy of Mrs. Mary Fitzgerald, this was taken this afternoon and it got worse, because this evening, the Inny Bridge is impassable and closed to traffic due to flooding.
04/10/16: No Fishing reported and not surprising with the massive flood with 105.5 mm of rainfall and if you click this link https://www.facebook.com/SalmonandSeaTrout/media_set?set=a.10211128963568289.1073741861.1482873007&type=3&pnref=story the pictures and the video tell the full story and just for the record that is yesterdays rainfall and doesn’t include today’s deluge Wind SE and the rest you know.

That is your ration from the last week on Lough Currane, from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts.
