Well known BBC Northern Ireland and BBC Radio Ulster Angling journalist Paddy O’Flaherty sadly passed away during the month. Paddy worked for the BBC in Northern Ireland and spent many years covering the troubles in the North on TV. In latter years he moved to BBC Radio Ulster and whilst covering current affairs in Northern Ireland, he had a huge passion for angling and broader environmental issues. He took great interest in fisheries and covered many topics in the days of Central and Regional Fisheries Boards. He did many interviews on the Dublin Angling Initiative, the Avoca River Restoration project and environmental issues in ERFB and latterly IFI. Paddy regularly fished the media competitions around the country and at the media competition in Courtlough fishery in Balbriggan in November he finished in 2nd place with 9 fish caught. Pictured below is a very happy Paddy with a nice rainbow trout. May he rest in peace.
