Lindsey Clarke reports from the RIVER DROWES – Monday 18thApril to Sunday 24th April 2016.
Levels on the Drowes have dropped a little now due to the extended dry period we have received. The gauge gave a fair reading of 0.53m on Monday but by the end of play on Sunday the river had dropped to 0.46m. The river was a little quieter and the fish not as forthcoming as last week and we have only heard of 5 salmon caught to date.
On Monday, Bill Likely recorded a 10lb salmon caught on a Rapala from The Grazings. On Thursday, A. Graham logged a 5½lb grilse caught on prawn from the Blackwater. On Friday, Sean Deeney registered a 6½lb grilse caught on a fly from Corry. On Saturday, P.J. Bailey accounted for a 10lb salmon caught on worm from the Blackhole and during the week Chris McGovern reported a 9lb salmon caught on worm from the Mill Pool. The forecast for the coming week is for wintery showers and hopefully this will equate to a rise in water levels.
