Angling guide Peter Cunningham has been in touch to let us know that water levels are just coming right on the Boyne after the last rain and that salmon fishing on the lower Boyne has not been easy during the last few weeks.
Over the weekend Daniel Hodeau and his friend Gabriel from France visited the River Boyne to try their hand at some salmon fishing. Neither angler had ever caught a salmon before and with conditions just coming right Peter was happy that their might be a chance of a fish.
However, things turned out better than expected when both Daniel and Gabriel each landed their very first ever salmon on Day 1. Even better was that Gabriel had never fished before so it was his first salmon on his very first outing. In addition to the two fish that were landed and released, 3 more fish were lost and a few missed as well.
All in all it was a great introduction to Irish salmon fishing for Daniel and Gabriel. Things were a little slower on Day 2 but Gabriel still managed to hook and land his second salmon on only his second ever day fishing. A great achievement! Both anglers were very happy indeed with their first experience salmon fishing in the Boyne Valley.
