Vincent Appleby reports on the last few days fishing at Lough Currane…
/05/2016 Lough Currane was on the wild side with a strong SW wind blowing down the Lake and some boats called it a day after about an hour and headed for the high stool and a hot toddy and talking of the one that got away, but there were a few boats that dogged it out but to no avail. Wind SW strong with misty rain.
/05/2016 All the Salmon head lines come from the Bungalow, Mr, Ross Slater of the UK, caught a fine 8 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Sadly there is no picture because the Paparazzi were nowhere to be found, in other words I failed miserably in my duties, I apologies to Ross and Neil, but sadly I had to go out of Town. Wind West light with reasonable cloud cover.
/05/2016 There were two Salmon caught. We start with the early shift and the Trolling department, local Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley, caught a fine 7 ½ lbs. Salmon on the troll. Now we head for the fly department, Kilkenny angler, Mr. Tommy Duggan, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a 7 ½ lbs. Salmon on a Silver stoat and for the rest of the angling community all quiet on the SW front. Wind Northeast light to fresh with bright sunshine all day.
/05/2016 Lough Currane produced some great fishing in all departments and I will leave the best to last. We start at the West End of the Lake and in the trolling department, Mr. Mike Fish of the UK, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer caught a fine 7 ½ lbs. Salmon on the troll, so on that note we head down the North Shore to the bungalow, Dutch Angler Mr. Wim Woermeijer, caught a fine 7 lbs. Salmon, while trolling with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and staying in the trolling department we head across the Lake to the South Side, Mr. Liam Ellis fishing out of Coffees Bay and at www.lakelandshouse.com caught a fine 10 lbs. Salmon on the troll and in the words of Liam himself, I’m camera shy, so I will let young Master Alex Driscoll take the credit while I take the photo and all I can say is download a Timer so you can take photo of yourselves. Now for fish of the day and what a cracker, Mr. Michael Roden, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Junior Scully caught a fine 12 lbs. Salmon on the fly in Copal. Wind ENE light and with good cloud cover with light rain at times.
/05/2016 All the Head lines go to renowned Dutch Angler Mr. Wim Woermeijer and for good reason, Wim, caught a fine 9 ½ lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and Wim was telling me that he had a great fight with his Salmon, so on that note we go to Neil’s quote of the day, you can say that Mr. Wim Woermeijer is Lough Currane’s Angler of the day and the reason for this is because the rest of my Noble Anglers failed miserably in their duties in all departments. Wind ESE fresh with reasonable cloud cover and with heavy showers at times.
/05/2016 Again Lough Currane produced some great fishing in all departments and we start with my Fish of the day and for good reason and that goes to UK angler, Mr. John Eames, who caught his first ever spring Salmon on the fly, weighing at 7lbs. While fishing with his Gillie MD and staying with the fly, another UK angler who also was in good form with the fly and no stranger to Lough Currane was Mr. Dave Eccelstone, while fishing with his Gillie, caught two Salmon. Now we head for the trolling hired out Boat department, Mr. Paul Hyland, fishing out of www.lakelandshouse.com caught a fine 8 ½ lbs. Salmon on the troll and now we head for the Hired out boat department of Waterville Boats and at [email protected] renowned Scottish Angler Mr. Alistair Dunbar, caught a fine 8 ½ lbs Salmon on the troll and by all accounts Alistair will have to stand the Commander-in-chief of Waterville Boats and at [email protected] Mr. Michael O’Sullivan a drink and for good reason, he provided the Rapala that caught his fine fish, or you could say a Scottish fish with an Irish connection. Wind SE fresh with good cloud cover with light rain this evening.
/5/16 There was good manipulation on Lough Currane today. We start in the fly department. Mr. Bill Lacey, fly fishing in the hired out boat department ofwww.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com caught a cracker of a 10 lbs. Salmon on the fly, on the drift. Now we head down the North Shore to Vincent’s Harbour, renowned Artist, Mr. Harry Feeney and ofwww.relaxwithwatercolour.com caught a fine 10 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy ofwww.fishingwithdom.com Now for the à la carte specimen Sea Trout department, Scottish Angler Mr. Alistair Dunbar, fishing in a hired out Boat from Waterville Boats and at [email protected] caught a fine specimen Sea Trout of 6 ½ lbs. On the fly, while drifting. Wind light to calm East with good cloud cover and very humid with persistent rain this evening.
/5/16 All the head lines go to UK angler Mr. Dave Eccelstone, while fly fishing with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan of www.vincentsfishing.com caught a fine 9 ¼ lbs. Salmon, on the photographic front, both anglers seem to be photo shy. On the weather front it made a reasonable flood last night, amount of rainfall 23.7 mm. Lough Currane was on the calm side this morning and come afternoon there was a nice breeze from the NW with good cloud cover at times.
That is your ration from the last week on Lough Currane, from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts.
