Lindsey Clarke reports from the RIVER DROWES – Monday 6th  to Sunday 12th June 2016.

Low water conditions continued again this week although there was a small steady rise over the week. The gauge on Monday read a very low 0.34m and this had risen to a low 0.37m by the end of play on Sunday. Despite the low and bright conditions, the Drowes fished well and there were some 60 plus salmon caught this week! Given here are some of the catches taken from the Catch Register at the fishery office.

On Monday, Dessie Moynes recorded a 4lb grilse caught on a fly. On Tuesday, William Rainey reported a 4lb grilse caught and released on prawn from the Sea Pools. On Wednesday, Paul McCausland logged a 7lb salmon caught on a spinner from the Mill Pool. On Friday, Calum Kettles recorded a 5lb grilse caught on a spinner from Red Roof and Dave Peach accounted for 2 grilse weighing 3 & 4lb also caught on a spinner from Red Roof.

Drowes 15.06.2016

On Saturday, Christophe Leutellier caught and released a 3½lb grilse on a spinner from Scot’s Corner. Niall McIntyre reported a 5lb grilse caught on a spinner from Red Roof. Sam McClelland logged a 3lb grilse caught on prawn from the Sea Pools and Michael McKee caught and released a 3lb grilse on prawn from the Sea Pools. On Sunday, Tommy McCutcheon registered a 7lb salmon caught on fly from the Eel Weir. William Rainey recorded 3 grilse all weighing 3lb caught and released again on prawn from the Sea Pools. Duncan Rainey reported a 4lb grilse caught on prawn from the Sea Pools. Andrew Sloan logged a 4lb grilse caught on fly from Red Roof and Jean Claude Depoissan accounted for 2 grilse weighing 2 & 3lb caught on a spinner from Red Roof. For the week, Norbert Wilems recorded 3 grilse weighing 2, 3 & 3½lb caught on spinner from Red Roof and the McBride party reported 10 grilse caught for the week (1 on fly and 9 on worm) from various pools.

The Drowes is rising steadily after decent rain on Monday night and at present, the gauge is reading 0.40m. Prospects look very good for the coming week.
