Vincent Appleby reports on the last few days fishing at Lough Currane…
12/5/16 Lough Currane was on the quiet side and not surprising with a light and variable NE wind, with reasonable cloud cover and very humid. The only bit of action reported was by UK angler Mr. Dave Eccelstone, Dave reported that he and his Gillie lost one Salmon at the net. I told Dave losses don’t count and won’t be reported? Well all I can say is, writer’s privilege, ha-ha!
13/5/16 Lough Currane was in bright sunshine all day with a light breeze from from the West, so you can say without any fear of contradiction that Friday the 13th kept it’s reputation intact, in other words my Noble Anglers failed miserably in their duties.
14/05/16 Again the weather takes the head lines on Lough Currane for the simple reason, my Noble Anglers failed to lure the old gentlemen. You could say Toby or not toby and alas it wasn’t Toby or fly so on that note we head for the upper Lakes and Lough Derriana. There was some good Brown Trout fishing today with a good bag of trout caught up to 1 1/2 lbs. Wind West light with reasonable cloud cover and very warm and just for the record the maximum temperature yesterday was 23C.
15/5/16 Lough Currane was on the calm side in all departments, even though there was a light breeze from the West and reasonable cloud cover but still my Noble Anglers couldn’t produce a Wild Atlantic Salmon or a premier specimen Seatrout. On that note I will go to quote of the day, one Gillie sent his report in and he caught nothing, “it’s time for a rain dance or a river dance” and I flatly agree.
16/5/16 Sadly the weather takes all the headlines and to be fair to my Noble Anglers all the elements are against the anglers, ie a low lake but that said in their defence, in my book they still failed miserably in their duties. Wind calm this morning, come afternoon there was a light breeze from the West.
17/5/16 Both departments scored today , so straight to the action and my fish of the day and that goes to US Angler, Mr. Bart Critchfield from Atlanta Georgia, who caught a fine 8 lbs. Salmon on the troll and his wife Linda, finished the day off with a fine 2lbs. Sea Trout, fishing with their Gillie Mr Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com
Now to the fly department and no stranger to Lough Currane, Mr . Arthur white of the UK caught a fine 8 lbs. Salmon on the fly, while fishing with his Gillie. Wind West and light with good cloud cover.
That is your ration from the last week on Lough Currane, from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts.
