The Carlow guide Richie Ryan , based in Cork I hasten to add , was on to apologise about rubbing it in about his end of season bumper crop of bass. To use the word coined by President Elect Trump , he won biggly !
Richie’s end of week foray produced 10 bass on one short afternoon session with a further 12 the following day. The guide said that the first four casts on day one produced four bass , the first one over 9 Lbs weight ! The inner Harbour water temperature was 49 degrees Fahrenheit on the day whilst outside was 52 degrees , which may have accounted for the willingness of the bass to feed.

A large flock of feeding birds was targeted and to Richie’s amazement , on each cast the lure had hardly hit the water when his rod doubled over. The settled spell of weather , coupled with the favourible water temperature, probably accounts for the bumper end of season he remarked.
