In early April, IFI invited anglers to participate in our Bass Angling Survey and over 200 of you were good enough to complete the online survey forms providing us with some really valuable data on bass angling and the Irish bass fishery – thanks again for your contributions.

We had offered the prize of a guided angling session and our lucky winner, Sean Martin from Clashmore, County Waterford, chose Sid Jones of Wexford as his preferred bass angling guide.

The pair hooked up in July somewhere on the Waterford shore for an evening’s plugging. Despite some very calm, cloudless conditions and a bright moon the pair managed to eke out some bass using hard lures. The fish were, of course, returned alive to fight another day.

Tips and techniques were exchanged between the pair as well as information on secret marks in secluded locations. It’s amazing how anglers who have never met before can communicate a in a common language and before long the conversation was like that of old friends – I think it’s fair to say that these two will be sharing the same tide and shore once more in search of bass in the not too distant future.

Sid has had some great success targeting big bass on lures along the east and south coasts including a number of double figure fish and one cracking fish of 12.5 lb caught in October of 2015 (and Sid will tell you himself – there are bigger ones out there!!).

…and don’t forget – if you participate in future IFI surveys you could be the one catching bass (or salmon, or pike, or trout, or tench…) on a guided angling trip! Tight lines…..
