Skipper Mark Gannon from Courtmacsherry Angling reports on the shark and general fishing in Courtmacsherry…
The fishing in the last week at Courtmacsherry has been outstanding with selfdrive, charter boat and the shore anglers from Holland, UK, Germany and here at home all enjoying great sport as several different species are being caught.

Anglers fishing from the selfdrives are catching good size dabs, thornbacks, plaice, pollack, cod, gurnard, coalfish. Mackerel are plentiful. The Bass are mostly being caught on surface poppers but fish are also taking savage lures and red gills. The bigger bass however are being caught on live bait, free lined while drifting the channel,or using peeler crab. One fish of 11.5lbs taken at the boathouse.

The charter boats anglers had good shark fishing with a blue of 216cm the heaviest last week. This super shark was caught by Terry O’Donovan. Other species caught while reef fishing include ling, conger, several good sized bullhuss, dogfish, cod, coalfish, whiting, haddock, rockling, thornback ray, plaice, turbot, dabs, scad, herring, launce -in total 23 species.

Skate fishing is producing some good fish to 100lbs while we lost several bigger fish, one just behind the stern – the strong flood tide assisting the escape.
