The destination for Day 2 of the EFSA European Shore Angling Championship was Ballinoulart beach just outside Kilmuckridge, Co Wexford. Anglers were greeted by bright sunshine with not even a wisp of cloud in the sky. The wind had also freshened and there was some colour in the water. Fishing again took place over a five hour session from 16.00 to 21.00. Today’s bait allocation consisted of 1 pack of sandeel, 1 pack of mackerel, 1 pack of lug wraps and 20 king rag. After a challenging Day 1, anglers started into Day 2 hoping for an easier and busier day but for the majority of anglers things were just as challenging as on Day 1.
It was a mixed bag again with some pegs fishing very well indeed producing circa 20 fish and others experiencing tough conditions. Some anglers did manage to improve catches with a change in tactics and they put together some nice catches in a relatively short period of time. Pressure was on anglers and teams who did well on Day 1 to do well again today or risk dropping down the rankings. The catches today consisted mainly of dabs and whiting with an occasional turbot and bass making an appearance.
The moderate wind did not help matters for some anglers and a lot of fish that were being caught were taken at distance. The German and Italian anglers in particular had a good day with Mike Flynn from Wales and Irelands Michael Quinn also doing well. As we enter the final Day 3 on Saturday 14th May it is still all to play for and by this time tomorrow we will know who the European Champions are!
