The Irish Ladies Fly-Fishing Association report:
We had our first trial of 2016 at Loughmacrory, Co Tyrone on Sunday 3rd April. It was a very wet and cold day but that didn’t stop 12 women from Co Clare to Co Derry turning up to fish. The craic could be heard across the lake all day. Loughmacrory & District Anglers have been very supportive of female anglers and we again are very grateful for their help – everything ran like clockwork from boating us to arranging engines and batteries to cups of tea to warm us up before and afterwards. Loughmacrory is a great venue with plenty of rainbows, and the odd pike and perch. All the 12 ladies competing caught fish. Many of the ladies have also joined the Club – the facilities, fishing and Sheelin boats available are excellent.
Winner on the day was Ruth Arrell with 10 fish, and top boatman was Sandy Dorrian who boated 16 fish between his 2 anglers. Congratulations to both of you. 72 fish were caught and safely returned despite it being a cold windy and rainy day.
Thank you very much to everyone who came along to fish, and to all the Club and ILFA helpers who boated us. All we had to do was step in the boats and fish to our hearts content.
We all went to the Charm Inn in Carrickmore afterwards to catch up and for a lovely hot meal and more cups of tea!
Go fishing…
