Michael Flanagan from Midland Angling had some fishing on Lough Lene last week where super over wintered rainbows to 7lb were landed…
I spent a few days on Lene last week as we settled into the opening of the trout-angling season. Quite a few anglers ventured out in cold blustery conditions, and some cracking brown and rainbow trout were caught. Some of the fish were over wintered and in hammered the lures and fly.

I was lucky enough to boat a rainbow over 7lbs, and this fish was certainly fighting fit, and it gave some some battle on light gear. Also in the thick of the action was local Guard Ray Lynch and pal John McAlister, we also caught Niall Kenny another local Garda on camera.

Lough Lene anglers will hold their first trout competition on March 20th and this competition is both fly and trolling.
