Sunday December 10th: Another lovely day on the beach today for Cartys land and sea sports shore league leg 4 in Fintra, a gentle breeze created a nice surf and some fine slabs of flounder over the 30cm mark were reeled in from the suds early on.
Things got quiet as the tide filled and bits of weed hampered those at the ends of the beach and it was a close finish in the end with only a few cm separating the top 3. Winner on the day well done to Marius Kontautus and 2nd place prize went to Stefan Martin and best Junior was won by Billy Gilvarry. Longest fish prize was a fine 37cm flounder for Pat Cunningham. Last leg of this league will be on Rossnowlagh on December 27th. Well done to all
Rocks and sand
Good reports are coming in from members fishing beaches and rocky shores. Some fine fishing over that sand was had at one remote venue. Although the beach was empty of people it was crammed full of fish with loads of treble and double hauls after 10 minute soaks the fish were feeding hard on the sandeel being disturbed by the waves, big fat flounder and chunky turbots and beautiful silver bars of sea trout all gently unhooked and released darting quickly off under the waves again, such an abundance of life in a seemingly quiet location, fantastic.
Swapped the sand for the kelp on the 13th before dusk armed with a selection of lures. Some great action on the modern lures even a cast and a slow retrieve has the paddle tails working and wriggling along and through the kelp beds. A cast a slow draw just above the kelp with the lethal blue firetail worm proves irresistible to the predator pollack some lovely fish still about in the weeks of Christmas. Walking miles along the shores a nice ground sea creating a loud salty foam rolling off the rocks, flicking in lures the ammonite shads bounced into the bottom being nailed by wrasse on the drop, Donegal Bay majestic again

Mariners *open* beach competition which will be held on Fintra beach Killybegs Saturday 17th December fishing from 12pm – 16.00pm (12-4pm) and will be a pegged event limited to 22 anglers, entry fee is €20 which includes longest fish pools, money in money out, everybody welcome, who will lift the Mariners cup 2016?
