Emma Stanley reports that pike fishing on Lough Derg is proving the most popular choice for anglers she is meeting on the lake at present…
Most of the anglers encountered no prefer to fish for Pike. The Lake is still receiving a good number of visiting anglers from the continent and those encountered were satisfied with the fishing when the stormy weather was not hampering their excursions. A group of Italian Anglers stated that they had landed a 25lb Pike on Thursday the 19th of October. A German group met in Terryglass harbour told how they have been coming to the Lough Derg area to fish for the past thirty years and that they always managed to land good size Pike, generally over 25lbs.
Angling guide Paul Bourke reports that all the recent rain made large parts of the lake the colour of coffee last week, but that the pike responded well to lures in any areas where the visibility was no too bad. Pierre Montjarret also had some good fishing in the last week and one of his clients helped him reach an important milestone. Didier caught the 150th pike over 1m to be brought to the boat this year on October 24th.
